Hello lovelies!

It’s been a while eh? Don’t mind me, happy new year!

I hope you’ve all started the year on a high and are excited to get to work on your goals for the year. As for me, I’ve got my work cut out for me, but I’m ready! You know how I do….. fierce and all 😉

Anyway, let me move on to what this post is about. As you can tell from the title, it’s about being your sister(or brother’s) keeper. I’ve been thinking about this topic for a while and I decided to write about it as my first post of the year.

By now, we’re all very familiar with various social media platforms and although the conversations on each one brings about us sharing our opinions, experiences and everyday struggles which are all great for better tolerance and enlightenment, I can’t help but feel that it also comes with some woes. One of which I want to talk about in this blog post.

In the last couple of years, more of us are becoming more self-aware, conscious and conscientious which I’m all for. We now think more about loving ourselves, flaws and all, as well as honoring our callings. Talk about a good time to be alive! We’re ever more than before embracing of our differences and learning to better understand ourselves as we grow in a world that is ever changing. However, I’ve also felt like there’s been this undertone of a “me me me me” culture that is currently taking wind. Believe when I say that I’m all for it, but when does the “me” mentality become too much? Shouldn’t we also be championing sacrifice and compromise? Surely, putting other’s needs before ours sometimes is good too.

While I’m definitely on the cheering squad of “do you sis” I’d also like to be on the squad of uplifting others even if sometimes I have to go out of my way to do it. That’s what loving others as you love yourself is truly about, or is it not? Is it just me or are we beginning to lose the virtue of genuinely caring for others?

While this millennial movement of ascension to better self-love and care is awesome, I believe that we should also uphold the values of being our sister’s keeper. I mean, what are friends for if they aren’t there for you when you need them? What are siblings or families for if they aren’t there to support and give you that pat on the back that might very well keep you from loosing your mind?

Yes, let’s be selfish with our time and care for ourselves in 2018, but let’s also not forget to love and genuinely support others while doing so.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this, your comments are welcome below 🙂

This lovely conceptual shoot was photographed by me and the wonderful models- Nkazana and Grandy were awesome throughout the day in the freezing cold. I’m grateful for the time and energy they spent in helping this shoot become a success. I’m proud of it!

Let’s work together in 2018 because we’re stronger together than we are all by ourselves.

Have a great year lovelies.

Keep being fierce and fearless!
