Healthy breakfast Ideas

From  my perspective, healthy eating is not synonymous to boring or lack of taste.

If like me you’ve come across posts or diet ‘advisers’ claiming that the only way to go is having oats for breakfast everyday and that stops you from starting a clean and healthy eating lifestyle, I can tell you that all hope for a healthy lifestyle is not lost!

While having oats for breakfast everyday may suit the habitual crash dieter, it just wont do for an individual who wants to genuinely change their eating habits for a life time.

If you remember, in my introductory post on healthy & fitness, I said that well- being is my priority. Thus, this doesn’t involve loosing weight fast and now (bear in mind that gaining back previously lost weight is almost inevitable with crash diets), but a conscious and mental effort to incorporate healthy alternatives to my dishes that is feasible and would last throughout my life span. For me, there’s no point going through the yearly battles some people put themselves through, whereby they loose weight for a particular occasion e.g. summer holiday; only to gain it all back and then some afterwards.

In order to help you ease into a new healthy eating programme, I’ve chosen 7 breakfast menus that I’ve prepared myself in the past. You’ll notice that while they are healthy, they are also tasty (at least they should look that way in the pictures).

I won’t be writing the recipes, but if there’s enough interest in my recipes I’ll try to put up posts accordingly. I hope these give you ideas about how to enjoy your breakfast the healthy way. Also, I exercise about 4 times a week and mainly eat a lot of fruits throughout the day for lunch and then a healthy dinner; for that reason I have a good appetite for breakfast.

Now sit back, relax and drool 🙂

1. Oats with honey (and black berry smoothie)

2. A combination of sorts (I actually had this for brunch) Baked sweet potato, avocado, fried egg and vegetarian sausage (I eat this instead of normal sausages because I am a vegetarian at the moment. I wouldn’t advice eating ‘real’ sausages often)

3. Vegetarian sausage salad and Pancake. Click here to see my healthy pancake recipe

4. Cornbread and scrambled egg ( I know this is not the most healthy, but you don’t plan to never eat bread again right? Exactly! It’s all about moderation)

5. Muesli and natural yoghurt with honey.

6. Avocado & Spinach salad, boiled egg, Vegetarian turkey and banana.

7. Omelette. a) Veggie omelette made with onion, garlic, sweet peppers and mangetout (You can use whatever veggies you like)   b)Spinach omelette (made with soy sauce 🙂

Hi Comfort, these where just to give people ideas on healthy alternatives for breakfast but I can imagine that a few of the ingredients may not be available everywhere. I will definitely make another post with veggies locally available in Naija. In the meantime, get creative and substitute the ingredients you don’t have at the moment for something else 🙂
