A Trek To Imlil In The Atlas Mountains

By  |  0 Comments

Imlil is a quaint village in the high atlas mountains of Morocco. It offers stunning views and the chance to scale Toubkal, the highest peak in Morocco. During my trek, I was constantly bombarded by stunning views.

I and my friend had arranged for a tour guide who was recommended to us in Marrakech and began our sojourn from Marrakech in our own private 4X4 car. We left at about 9am in order to make a good head start and get to the village just in time to have a scrumptious lunch in one of the berber homes. Although there wasn’t much interaction with the host, we had a gracious welcome and were immediately welcomed with delicious mint tea, a Moroccan tradition.

There was another group of tourists who had a table on the other side of us, also indulging in the stunning views. Our walk up to the host’s house took over an hour and was definitely a work out! We had been told to come with several clothes and jackets(we visited in January when it’s cold) because it was obviously colder on the mountains but walking up made us work up a sweat that we ended up actually taking off our jackets and continuing the trek with just our cardigan. I was definitely sweaty!

The snowy mountain was absolutely breath taking and I stopped several times to take these shots. During our lunch, we were served the traditional tangine meal of potatoes, carrots and beef, but before then we had also been welcomed with a steaming pot of soup and bread.

After our meal, we had a little tour of the riad and then started to make our descent back to solid ground. The little community below were friendly and we had a look around some of the shops and left with some Moroccan oil and black soap.
